May 19: I ended up staying the previous night in Valley Springs at the "19th Hole Inn". As the name implies, it was situated on a manicured golf course. This morning dawned bright and full of promises. The foot hills were peaceful, displaying a beautiful pastoral backdrop as I neared the Sierra Mountains.
