August 7: It was extremely hot and humid this day, although cycling on the back-country mountain roads was beautiful. Riding nearly 50-miles without coming across a town or village for services (water!), I was anticipating a grocery at this crossroads, as indicated on the map. Well, the general store had closed last year. I was in serious need of water, so I approached Mrs. Hoskins who was outside replenishing the nectar in the Hummingbird feeders. She happily led me to the rear of the home to a faucet that came from their deep well. The water was cold and refreshing. She and her husband offered for me to come and sit with them for a bit under the shade trees in the front of the yard. I took them up on that. (Sorry for this poor quality picture.)
