May 23: The Inn at Kirkland offered warmth and nourishment on this amazing, yet, frigid day. Kathleen served up plenty of herbal tea, piping hot soup and crispy salad. BTW, the Inn offers a surprisingly creative and diverse menu. Kirkland is a magical place nestled in a bowl high up in the Sierra. But, it was time to continue the day's journey. My bones now warmed, I began the stiff 5-mile climb up Carson Spur. I knew of the beautiful reward that awaited me at the top...
