May 30: The town of Ausin (pop. 350) clings to the side of a mountain. You have to climb part way up to get there. There is no grocery and the opportunities for places to stay are very limited. At the end of the day the $28.00 Mountain Motel looked pretty good. After splitting the room with Rick, from San Jose, it was a real bargain. Sleeping in a bed instead of on a Thermarest pad was just fine. Looking down on the tiny hamlet as I make my way toward Austin Summit.
