May 30: Eureka is another little hamlet nestled in the mountains about 70 miles east of Austin and another 78 miles until you get to Ely. In between, there are absolutely no services—not even water! Fortunately, Eureka had a small market in the middle of the 3 block long town, so we could restock on provisions. After rinsing out some of my clothes and hanging them to dry, I was fast asleep.
