July 23: On the eastern banks of the Mississippi River lies Chester, Illinois. Chester is the "Home of Popeye" where a six-foot, 900 lb. bronze statue of the infamous sailor stands in Elzie C. Segar Memorial Park, bearing the name of Popeye's creator. The park is located next to the Chester Bridge which leads west across the mighty Mississippi River. Popeye, like myself, was a huge proponent of spinach!
