July 29: I spent more time than I bargained for in Carbondale, Illinois. There are several good bike shops in this college town. Southern Illinois is a very hilly region with abundant humidity and lush forests. This region is bordered on the west by the Mississippi River and on the south and east by the Ohio River. The only way across the Ohio River from Cave-In-Rock, Illinois to Kentucky is via ferry boat.
