June 13: There are lots of steep hills to keep one motivated. I don't know why, but, in spite of the magnificent scenery, today I have to confess that I'm struggling. Maybe my body was talking to me. Perhaps it's the wind. The 10 miles out of the basin were very hilly and the wind didn't want to cooperate at all, and I felt rather spent just getting back to the route. As soon as I turned on to the road at Canyonville, it was time to ascend a huge Utah grade, (translated "steep"). Already tired this morning I faught with myself with each stroke of the pedals.
