May 24: The back roads that wind along the foot of the eastern Sierra Mountains were absolutely beautiful. Appropriately named "Foothill Road" leads to Genoa—Nevada's oldest town. I stopped for lunch at the General Store/Deli; and opted to dine on the porch. Seated at the table next to me were two couples of seniors from Madison, Wisconsin, one of which was celebrating their 50th anniversary. They were enjoying a fresh apple pie, baked by their daughter. I offered to take their picture and in return they offered me a rather large piece of the apple pie. I couldn't say "no". After all, I'd burn off the calories from the pie in about 20 minutes! Yummmm! What a glorious day!
