29 March: Spring is a beautiful time to traverse Pacheco Pass. In the 1850s, an informal variant name for the pass was Robber's Pass attributed to the frequent hold-ups experienced by travelers using the route. Because of the high number of traffic fatalities, Pacheco Pass is sometimes also called Blood Alley.
